RxPharmacist, Maryam Khazraee
“With Pam’s help, I have successfully launched and currently have made enough revenue to hire two pharmacy graduates to help grow the business,” Khazraee says. By late 2017, she had launched three test-prep guides had two more state study guides in the works. In 2018, she plans to add study guides for state testing in four additional states.
Khazraee’s brother, who had encouraged her to start a business, pointed her toward SCORE early in her business planning. Mentor Pam Brown “Has always been there for me, sharing consistent amazing feedback,” Khazraee says.
She also received guidance from volunteer mentors Dave Dobel, who focused on marketing and website needs; Don Reid, who connected Khazraee with another mentee in a similar business phase; and Craig Linsky who assisted in deciphering copyright laws.
Khazraee meets with Brown every four to six months to provide updates and chat about Khazraee’s business progress. Brown has provided feedback on contracts, marketing, and promotional materials for hiring pharmacy graduates for RxPharmacist’s externship program.
When Maryam Khazraee was studying for her pharmacy licensure board exams, she realized there weren’t many study resources to help her prepare. The resources available were prohibitively expensive for pharmacy students. After passing her board exams, Khazraee started creating test preparation guides that she could sellout more affordable prices. She also worked on creating guides for specialty exams for which there weren’t many preparatory resources.
Khazraee’s company, RxPharmacist, puts profits into funding a summer externship program to support pharmacy students between studying for their board exams and finding their first job as a pharmacist.
